What You'll Learn on this Paediatric First Aid Course
By the end of the Paediatric First Aid course, you will have the knowledge and hands-on skills to confidently handle a wide range of first aid situations involving babies and children. The course is interactive, practical, and tailored to real-life scenarios that you may encounter in a childcare or educational setting.

You will learn how to

Perform life-saving CPR - on infants and children using up-to-date techniques and gain confidence in using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Identify and respond to unconsciousness - whether the child is breathing or not, and place them in the recovery position safely.

Act quickly and effectively during a choking emergency - using age-appropriate back blows and abdominal thrusts.

Recognise the signs of shock, asthma, seizures, and allergic reactions - including anaphylaxis, and provide appropriate care.

Treat a wide variety of minor injuries - such as cuts, grazes, bumps, nosebleeds, sprains, burns, and insect bites.

Manage serious conditions - such as head injuries, febrile convulsions, meningitis, and diabetic emergencies.

Control bleeding and dress wounds - using proper techniques and suitable equipment from a first aid kit.

Communicate clearly in an emergency - including how to speak to emergency services and provide reassurance to children and others present.

Maintain accurate records of incidents - understanding the importance of clear, confidential documentation in line with safeguarding and health & safety policies.

Understand the legal responsibilities - of a paediatric first aider in the workplace, including duty of care and the importance of hygiene and infection control.

Alternatively we can come to you, ensuring your members receive hands-on training in a familiar environment. A qualified instructor will visit your location, providing practical, engaging and scenario-based training tailored to your workplace.

What to Bring / What We'll Need
You are welcome to bring your own lunch or you can purchase it on the day from the pub or nearby shops. We also recommend bringing a notebook for any personal notes you may want to make during the course. Refreshments will be provided throughout the course to keep you comfortable and focused.

If we come to you, we'll need a power outlet for the slideshow and some space to do our hands-on activities during the course.
Assessment and Skill Development
Learners are continuously assessed throughout the course using various methods, such as practical demonstrations, Q&A sessions, quizzes and interactive activities like role play. These approaches are designed to provide reassurance and support as participants build and refine their skills.

How long is the Paediatric First Aid (PFA) certificate valid for?
Upon successfully completing the course, learners will be awarded a Paediatric First Aid (PFA) certificate approved by the FAIB. This qualification remains valid for three years.
How long is the Paediatric First Aid (PFA) course?
Our courses usually run from 9.30 to 4.30 which includes a half-hour lunch and 2 short 15 min breaks.
