What You'll Learn on this Moorland First Aid Course

Our Moorland First Aid Course provides you with the skills and knowledge to handle a variety of first aid situations whether you're managing a group, camping or out exploring the great outdoors. By the end of this course, you'll feel confident in your ability to respond to emergencies in both familiar and remote environments.

Basic Adult First Aid

  • CPR (adult): Learn how to perform CPR in emergency situations.

  • Managing Bleeding: Understand how to control bleeding and manage wounds effectively.

  • Handling Sprains and Fractures: Gain the skills to stabilise injuries until medical help arrives.

  • Burns and Scalds: Learn how to treat burns, from minor to severe.

  • Choking and airway management: Learn life-saving techniques in cases of choking and unconscious casualties.

  • Bites and Stings: Understand how to treat insect bites, animal bites and stings, including allergic reactions.

Outdoor First Aid Skills

  • Learn how to communicate with emergency services.

  • Environmental Injuries: Learn how to recognise and treat hypothermia, heat exhaustion, dehydration and other environmental conditions.

Equipment

  • Essential Outdoor Kit: Discover what essential gear and supplies to take with you on outdoor adventures to be prepared for any situation.

  • Building Your First Aid Kit: Learn what to include in your first aid kit, ensuring you have the right tools to handle common injuries and emergencies in remote areas.

  • Scenario-Based Learning: Participate in hands-on activities and real-world scenarios to practise your skills. 

  • Improvisation Skills: Learn how to use available resources and improvise, ensuring you can still provide effective care in any situation.

What to Bring

For our real-world scenarios, we encourage you to bring the gear you would typically take on a day walk or hike. We also recommend bringing a notebook for any personal notes you may want to make during the course. You are welcome to bring your own lunch or you can purchase it on the day from the pub or nearby shops. Refreshments will be provided throughout the course to keep you comfortable and focused.

Assessment and Skill Development

Learners are continuously assessed throughout the course using various methods, such as practical demonstrations, Q&A sessions, quizzes and interactive activities like role play. These approaches are designed to provide reassurance and support as participants build and refine their skills.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate of completion, acknowledging their proficiency in first aid.
