What You'll Learn on this Emergency Paediatric First Aid Course
By the end of the Emergency Paediatric First Aid Course, you will have the essential knowledge and practical skills to confidently handle emergency situations involving babies and young children. This course is dynamic, hands-on, and built around real-life scenarios you could encounter in a childcare or family settings.

You will learn how to

Understand the aims of First Aid - and what it truly means to take on the responsibilities of a Paediatric First Aider.

Deliver life-saving CPR – Master CPR techniques for infants and children, and learn how to safely use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) when every second counts.

Respond to unconsciousness – Whether the child is breathing or not, you’ll know how to assess the situation and place them in the recovery position with care and confidence.

Act fast in choking emergencies – Learn how to perform back blows and abdominal thrusts that are appropriate for each age group, helping clear airways quickly and safely.

Recognise and respond to common medical emergencies – Including asthma attacks, seizures, shock, allergic reactions, and life-threatening anaphylaxis.

Treat everyday injuries – From grazes, bruises, nosebleeds, and burns to sprains, stings, and more, you’ll know what to do with the right tools and techniques.

Handle serious conditions – Understand how to manage head injuries, febrile convulsions, diabetic emergencies and signs of meningitis with confidence.

Control bleeding and dress wounds – Use effective bandaging and dressing methods for different injuries using a first aid kit.

Communicate effectively during emergencies – Stay calm, speak clearly with emergency services and offer reassurance to children.

Record incidents accurately – Learn how to document what happened clearly and confidentially, following safeguarding and health and safety protocols.

Alternatively we can come to you, ensuring your members receive hands-on training in a familiar environment. A qualified instructor will visit your location, providing practical, engaging and scenario-based training tailored to your workplace.

What to Bring / What We'll Need
You are welcome to bring your own lunch or you can purchase it on the day from the pub or nearby shops. We also recommend bringing a notebook for any personal notes you may want to make during the course. Refreshments will be provided throughout the course to keep you comfortable and focused.

If we come to you, we'll need a power outlet for the slideshow and some space to do our hands-on activities during the course.

Learners are continuously assessed throughout the course using various methods, such as practical demonstrations, Q&A sessions, quizzes and interactive activities like role play. These approaches are designed to provide reassurance and support as participants build and refine their skills.

How long is the Emergency Paediatric First Aid (EPFA) certificate valid for?
Upon successfully completing the course, learners will be awarded an Emergency Paediatric First Aid (EPFA) certificate approved by the FAIB. This qualification remains valid for three years.
How long is the Emergency Paediatric First Aid (EPFA) course?
Our courses usually run from 9.30 to 4.30 which includes a half-hour lunch and 2 short 15 min breaks.
