This one-day course is the standard minimum requirement for workplaces that need a designated first aider. It’s ideal for those working in low-risk environments like offices, shops, or small businesses. Our Emergency First Aid at Work course is designed to equip individuals with essential life-saving skills and confidence to respond effectively in workplace emergencies. This course is tailored to meet the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements and can be adapted to suit the specific needs and risks of your workplace environment.

Our Emergency First Aid at Work Course covers essential life-saving skills tailored to workplace environments and the specific risks employees may face. By the end of the course, you'll feel confident in your ability to respond to a range of medical emergencies in your workplace setting.

Core First Aid Skills

  • Managing Illness and Injury: Learn how to assess and manage incidents involving fainting, shock, seizures, burns, and minor wounds.

  • Unresponsive Casualty Care: Gain the skills to safely assist someone who is unconscious, including the recovery position and monitoring vital signs.

  • Workplace-Specific Injuries: Understand how to handle slips, trips, falls, crush injuries, and other common incidents.

Emergency Response

  • CPR and AED Use: Develop confidence in performing CPR and using an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) effectively.

  • Choking Management: Master the steps to assist a choking colleague in a calm and effective manner.

  • Bleeding and Wound Care: Control external bleeding and dress wounds safely using appropriate techniques.

  • Shock Response: Learn how to recognise signs of medical shock early.

First Aid Equipment

  • Workplace First Aid Kits: Know what should be included in a compliant first aid kit and how to maintain it.

  • Incident Reporting and Emergency Communication: Understand how to report incidents accurately and communicate effectively during emergencies.

  • Scenario-Based Practice: Participate in hands-on exercises and observe demonstrations based on realistic workplace scenarios.

Alternatively we can come to you, ensuring your members receive hands-on training in a familiar environment. A qualified instructor will visit your location, providing practical, engaging and scenario-based training tailored to your workplace.

What to Bring / What We'll Need

You are welcome to bring your own lunch or you can purchase it on the day from the pub or nearby shops. We also recommend bringing a notebook for any personal notes you may want to make during the course. Refreshments will be provided throughout the course to keep you comfortable and focused.

If we come to you, we'll need a power outlet for the slideshow and some space to do our hands-on activities during the course.

Assessment and Skill Development

Learners are continuously assessed throughout the course using various methods, such as practical demonstrations, Q&A sessions, quizzes and interactive activities like role play. These approaches are designed to provide reassurance and support as participants build and refine their skills.

How long is the Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) certificate valid for?

Upon successfully completing the course, learners will be awarded a Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) certificate approved by the FAIB. This qualification remains valid for three years.

How long is the Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course?

Our courses usually run from 9.30 to 4.30 which includes a half-hour lunch and 2 short 15 min breaks.
